The Association of Tennis Players (ATP) and Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) are separate entities that run the men’s and women’s professional tennis tours. The WTA has substantially less money than the ATP. In March 2024, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) proposed a $2 billion take-it-or-leave-it offer under which these entities would merge into a single body, the PIF tour. As well as centralising the management of the men’s and women’s tours into one entity, the deal involves conditions such as hosting two events (a Masters 1000 tournament at the start of each season and the women’s tour finals) in Saudi Arabia.
